Poirier against the city running Anicinabe Park

The mayor of Kenora is stongly opposed to the city operating Anicinabe Park.

The proposal was put forward last month by city administration as one way to generate more revenues.

Andrew Poirier says the city has no experience operating a campground and it’s not in their ‘wheelhouse’.

He adds there are other more pressing issues facing the municipality and he’s not in favour of the proposal.

The city estimates it can more than double the revenue it gets from Anicinabe if it runs it itself.

It estimates the park can generate at least $75,000 each year, but Poirier feels there are better ways to increase city revenues.
