CUPE 191 city employees in a legal strike position March 8th

Members of CUPE employed by the City of Kenora will be in a legal strike position as of March 8th at midnight.

That despite on-going talks between the union and city administration.

Three days of talks with a conciliator last week failed to come to an agreement.

The union asked for a no-board report from the Ministry of Labour, which means a strike can legally take place in 17 days.

The city says labour market adjustments, general salary increases, bonus vacation days and double-time provisions, remain outstanding.

The no-board report does not guarantee a strike, and the city says it remains optimistic that an agreement can be reached.

In the event that a deal cannot be reached, a contingency plan has been developed that will see the continuation of winter maintenance and other city services.

CUPE local 191 represents 140 workers in the city.
