Investigation into infant death on Pikangikum

The OPP is investigating a death on the Pikangikum First Nation.

Last Wednesday, Provincial Police responded to an incident where an infant was taken to the nursing clinic in medical distress.

The child was then taken to hospital in Winnipeg.

The infant died on Sunday.

A post-mortem exam is being conducted at the Winnipeg Health Science Center at a later date.

The OPP’s Criminal Investigations branch is leading the investigation with help from Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Manitoba.

Assistance is also being provided by OPP Forensic Identification Services, the OPP Regional Support Team, OPP Major Case Investigation Team and OPP Red Lake Crime Unit.
