Multiple forest fires Monday afternoon

The fire hazard in the Kenora District is in the extreme range.

Already this afternoon, there have been several new wildfires that are considered out of control.

Kenora Fire #17 is a 5-hectare blaze near Pistol Lake near Minaki.

It has already grown to 5 hectares in size.

Another is located near War Eagle Lake near the west entrance of the Kenora By-Pass.

It is listed at 0.1 hectare in size and not under control.

Further to the southeast, Highway 11 near Atikokan has been closed between Highway 623 and Highway 633 due to a forest fire.

The blaze has ballooned over 75 hectares in just over an hour.

Meanwhile, a fire ban has been put in place in Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls.

That means all burning permits have been suspended, and open-air burning is not permitted, including campfires.
