English sets swimming record

A member of the Kenora Sharks Swim Club has broken a 14-year-old Ontario record.

Sophie English, a 14-year-old para-swimmer, set the record in the 200 meters backstroke in Winnipeg last week.

She finished the race in a time of 4:17:70.

English is pumped by the record.

“It felt incredibly rewarding and exciting to break a record from 2011. It really felt like all my hard work and training were paying off.”

What’s next for English? She is working towards qualifying for the nationals, and hopefully a berth to the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
