Liberals avoid first vote of confidence

The federal government has avoided its first potential vote of confidence.

King Charles delivered the throne speech in parliament last week.

MPs could request a vote to accept the speech Wednesday. When none of them did, the motion was passed without contest.

If a vote was called, the Liberals would have needed support from some opposition MPs.

Interim NDP leader Don Davies said the party would vote against it earlier Wednesday but they did not, according to multiple reports.

The Conservatives have also previously said they would support the Liberals sometimes, including on issues related to fighting back in the trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump.
