TSB releases report into fatal plane crash in Red Lake

The Transportation Safety Board has released its final report into a fatal plane crash near Red Lake almost a year ago.

One person was killed after a DeHavilland Beaver owned by Canadian Fly-In fishing went down on the shoreline of Chukuni River on June 16th, 2024.

The TSB report says the plane stalled just after takeoff, losing speed and altitude and finally crashed.

There were five people on board.

The pilot and passenger located in the front seats survived.

Three passengers were located in the rear of the plane, and two sustained serious injuries and were flown to hospital in Thunder Bay.

One of the passengers succumbed to their injuries.

An investigator with the TSB says the pilot lost control as a result of the plane stalling and that contributed to the crash.

The TSB also says the aircraft was 334 pounds heavier over the maximum take-off weight.

The report confirms there were no defects outstanding at the time of the crash and no indication that a component or system malfunction played a role in the accident.
