Blueberry Festival starts tomorrow in Sioux Lookout

A summer-time tradition in Sioux Lookout is returning.

The Blueberry Festival starts tomorrow and runs until August 10th.

Chair Dori Hopko says the festival has been around for a long time.

“We are the longest running 10-day festival in Ontario,” Hopko proudly proclaims.

“Nobody else has been able to succeed at that for 43 years.”

Hopko adds they have a number of events tomorrow to kick things off.

“That will run from 12 to 2 pm. During that time, we’ll have the opening ceremonies. We’re going to have a bannock bake-off. We’re going to have the tug-of-war. We’ll have the Jack McKenzie Award presented, and the Shriners are going to have a barbeque.”

In addition, there will be a birthday party for Blueberry Bert, the Blueberry Festival’s mascot, on Saturday.
