Ontario Provincial Police say they have seized more than $1 million worth of drugs in Kenora and arrested two people from out of province.
Officers began an investigation into the trafficking of fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine, hydromorphone and cocaine in October.
Following an arrest, on Nov. 19, police executed a search warrant in Pellatt Township at a residence rented on a short-term basis.
Officers seized about 962 grams of suspected fentanyl, 1.2 kilograms of suspected crystal meth, 287 grams of suspected cocaine and three grams of crack cocaine — all with an estimated street value of $1.072 million.
Also found by police were one rifle, two digital scales, two cellular devices and $4,060 in Canadian currency.
A 25-year-old from Edmonton, Alta., and a 20-year-old from Westbank, B.C., have each been charged with seven offences:
- possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000
- unauthorized possession of a firearm
- careless storage of a firearm
- possession for the purpose of trafficking – hydromorphone
- possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
- possession for the purpose of trafficking – crystal methamphetamine
- possession for the purpose of trafficking – fentanyl
Both were remanded into custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kenora last week.
