$50,000 of illegal drugs stopped from reaching Sandy Lake First Nation

The Ontario Provincial Police has prevented roughly $50,000 of illegal drugs from making it into the Sandy Lake First Nation.

On Wednesday evening OPP officers in Red Lake noticed a car littering on Howey Street leading to a traffic stop.

During the stop, a large amount of suspected oxycodone tabs, codeine tabs, crack cocaine and cocaine was located and seized.

This led to the arrest of the car’s two occupants.

A 49-year-old Sandy Lake First Nation resident and a 50-year-old Sandy Lake First Nation resident are both facing three drug trafficking charges.

Both the accused have been released from custody with a future court date.
