Environment Canada confirms a mild start to December

It’s been an unseasonably mild start to the month of December across northwestern Ontario.

Temperatures have soared to as much as 15 degrees above our normal.

Steven Flisfeder of Environment Canada says even though things cool off this week, it should remain fairly mild in the weeks ahead.

“This week you’ll be returning to normal, but we do see that flip back to above seasonal for the later half of the week,” says Flishfeder.

“That pattern of above normal is expected to continue through most, if not the rest, of December.”

Flishfeder confirms it’s been an unusual start to the month of December.

“Definitely been mild. This time of year you should be seeing daytime highs of about -8, or -9 degrees. So anything above that is above normal.”

The average daily mean temperature for December is about -14, but -8 for this time of year.
