Lakers come back to beat the Islanders

A couple of rarities in the SIJHL Tuesday afternoon.

Firstly, it was a 12:30 start at the Moncrief Construction Sports Center in Kenora.

The Fort Frances Lakers ended up beating the Kenora Islanders 7-4.

The other rarity was a goalie fight with seven seconds left on the clock.

Gunner Paradis and Matthew Stephens met at center ice to duke it out.

On the ice, the Islanders led 4-2 after two periods, but the Lakers responded in the third with five unanswered goals, including an empty netter to seal the victory.

Jack Wood led the scoring for the Lakers with a hat trick.

All of his goals came in the third period.

Up next for the Lakers is a home game on Friday against the Dryden GM Ice Dogs.

The Islanders have a whole week off and don’t play until Tuesday, February 6th in Red Lake against the Miners.
