67 year old dead, 2 injured in Highway 11-17 collision

A 67-year-old has died in a multi-vehicle collision that left Highway 11-17 closed for hours.

On Wednesday around 1:19 p.m. Emergency services responded to a collision involving two commercial vehicles and two passenger vehicles on the highway between West Loon Road and East Loon Road in the Municipality of Shuniah.

The collision claimed the life of a man and two others were sent to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation.

The highway was initially closed between the community of Pearl and Highway 587 before the closure was extended to Highway 527.

The OPP North West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, OPP Collision Re-Constructionists, and the Forensic Identification Services are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

The highway re-opened to traffic on Thursday at 1:40 a.m.
