Sioux Lookout ready to develop new subdivision

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout has a new subdivision ready for development.

The Hillcrest Hub lies on 19 acres of land with six lots and a central parking area.

Economic Development Officer Jennifer Esposito says this is mainly a commercial hub, but there are opportunities for housing.

“Staff also recently proposed a change to council which will allow residential units as part of this commercial development at Hillcrest hub,” says Esposito.

“This will mean that a medical provider who wants to purchase land in this development, they’ll have the ability to be house their employees.”

Esposito says Hillcrest is fully serviced and they are focusing on the health and wellness services.

“Last year we were really fortunate to have an unusually warm fall, and that allowed our contractors to get ahead to lay all of the subsurface infrastructure ahead of schedule. So here we are, ready to accept proposals and look for the start of development this year.”

Esposito says they began planning for this development more than 10 year ago, and COVID delayed development for another three years.
