As expected the price of a liter of gasoline has gone up at least three cents since April 1st.
That adds insult to injury as there has been a steady increase at the pump in the past couple of months.
Dan McTeague President of Canadians for Affordable Energy explains Northwestern Ontario gas Prices are connected to the Midwest of the United States.
“US Midwest prices have gone through the roof by about 60 or 70 cents a gallon, good enough for a 15 or 18 cent increase over the past month and a half as a result of a couple of refineries that went down, ” explains McTeague.
“One in particular, the biggest one in the US Midwest.”
The increase in the Carbon Tax on Monday is just part of the problem in terms of high gas prices.
“It is on a day like today, probably at the high end. For the foreseeable future what we will see is a continuation of these uncomfortable prices as Ontario and Canada is likely to see a 20 percent correction, upwards, in gas prices.”
McTeague adds that he does not expect gas prices to come down anytime soon.
