Kenora Fire Department deals with six fires in one day

A busy weekend for Kenora Fire and Emergency Services.

There were six calls for service on Saturday, including a garage fire.

That blaze broke out just before noon on Kirkpatrick Avenue.

The garage was totally destroyed, and the nearby house sustained significant damage.

An adjacent home also received minor damage.

The cause is still under investigation.

The other calls were for grass fires.

One was in Keewatin and another was at the Lunam Quarry on Ritchie Road.

Sparks from a burn barrel caused nearby grass and bush to catch fire.

Crews battled the grass fire for over an hour before calling it out.

The fire department reminds residents there is no day burning, and any open air burning requires a permit, and must be supervised and have an adequate source of putting the fire out on site.
