Car chase ends in Dryden

A high speed car chase has ended in Dryden.

It started late yesterday afternoon after the OPP spotted a stolen vehicle near Ignace.

The vehicle was heading west and police tried to stop it in Zealand Township.

It refused to stop and fled at a high rate a speed.

Police did not pursue, but set up a spike belt, but it was unsuccessful.

The vehicle eventually ended up in the City of Dryden, and the OPP deployed a second spike belt.

This time it was successful, but the vehicle continued to flee and collided with a passing motorist.

It eventually came to rest at a local gas station.

The driver fled on foot, but was later located and arrested by Provincial Police.

The suspect remains in custody pending bail hearing.
