Machin finalizes the municipal budget

Some good news for property owners in the Municipality of Machin.

They will be paying slightly less than was proposed earlier this year.

Mayor Gordon Griffiths says they saw a increase in development in the past year and that helped.

“A couple of things we were able to work on, and we were fortunate that we’ve had some new development in the area so our MPAC (Municipal Property Assessment Corporation) assessment went up,” explains Griffiths.

“So the actual tax that people will be paying is about a 3.4 percent increase and the extra we got is from the new building, so that’s kind of a plus.”

That’s about a percent less than what was originally proposed.
