Dryden city council is supporting a resolution asking unincorporated ratepayers to contribute to the Kenora Homes for the Aged.
Mayor Jack Harrison says the unincorporated areas already contribute to agencies like the Kenora District Services Board and the Northwestern Health Unit.
“We’re looking for the same, we feel that long term care should be funded by the unorganized as well as municipalities,” Harrison told city council at their open meeting this week.
“It just a matter of equity. They have the same chance to get into long term care as (residents) of municipalities.”
Harrison says the province has been made aware of their concerns.
“We’re already been down to (Toronto) to talk to the minister of Long Term Care and made our concerns known. This is just a good way to rally all the municipalities (in the Kenora District) to support so we can head down to Queen’s Park and continue to seek changes that would be equitable for everybody.”
Harrison adds there’s also a proposal to have the District of Kenora Unincorporated Ratepayers Association, or DOKURA, to have representation of the District Homes for the Aged board.
