Kenora Fire Department adds to its service area

Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has signed a couple of agreements for fire service.

One is for Beauty Bay and the other is for Washagamis Bay.

Fire Chief Dave Pratt says the base agreement calls for a yearly payment of just over $15,000.

“With the funding model, we’ll call it a flat fee to provide the service and they’ll get invoiced anytime we respond,” Pratt told council recently.

“The $15,000 and change is just to enter into the agreement. Anytime we get a request to attend, we would bill them at the MTO (Ministry of Transportation) rate, which is the rate the province pays us to be on the highway per apparatus.”

There is a 3 percent escalator clause each year of the agreement.

Pratt says they currently have agreements with Rat Portage and the Dalles.

The agreements were approved at the open meeting Tuesday evening.
