Public Information Center on next phase of highway twinning

The second phase of twinning Highway 17 west will be undergoing more scrutiny next month.

The Ministry of Transportation says it will be holding a public information center on July 4th.

The engineering firm being used for the route planning says it’s has a preferred option for the twinning.

It’s an 8.5 kilometer section between the intersection of Highway #673 and Rush Bay.

Right now WSP Canada says it’s would like to double-lane that section of the road.

Earlier this month, a group called Keep Highway 17 North, proposed an entirely new highway away from Highway 17 and create a new route north between Gundy Road and the Kenora By-Pass.

The Public Information Center will run from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Super 8.
