NOHFC hands out $7.4 million in the Kenora area

Several projects in the Kenora area are getting a helping hand from the Northern Ontario Fund Corporation.

A total of $7.4 million has been handed out to 18 community and business development proposals.

Anishinabe of Wauzhushk Onigum First Nation First Nation is on the receiving end of almost $1.9 million for four projects.

The largest is a new 96 hundred square foot education center and the NOHFC is providing $1.5 million the help build it.

$80,000 is going to provide an accessible washroom and changing facility at the Roundhouse and $139,000 dollars will be used to clean up and remediate a site on Devil’s Gap for future economic development.

$173,000 will be used to build and equip the new radio station for the community.

The Onigaming First Nation is also getting $2 million to help build a two story, 23 thousand square foot economic development center.

The building will also house a childcare space, kitchen, gym, walking track, conference centre, multi-purpose training room, cultural centre and a small museum.

The City of Kenora will also receive $800,000 for the expansion of the boat launch and parking area behind the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.
