Treaty #3 Police responds to concerns from First Nations

The Treaty #3 Police Service has responded to concerns outlined by the Grassy Narrows and Wabaseemoong First Nations.

The two communities say they will terminate service with the police force in 100 days.

They see the police force as being ineffective and their service as being insufficient.

Treaty #3 Police says it has a number of ways of improving its service to the communities it services.

That includes meeting one-on-one with community leaders to hear their concerns and develop solutions.

Treaty Three Police Services Board President Christine Jourdain says they are working to improve police services in the region.

“We understand the concerns of the communities and are actively working to address them. Our priority is to ensure that T3PS has the resources and support it needs to effectively serve and protect our communities. We are committed to transparency and collaboration as we work through these challenges.”

It adds its services have been impacted by a lack of resources which are currently the subject of a human rights complaint.

At the same time, it says it will update local First Nations on steps it is taking to improve services.
