City of Dryden starting 2025 budget process early

The City of Dryden is already looking ahead to the 2025 budget.

Some of the issues and challenges were presented to city council this week.

Steven Lansdell-Roll is the municipal treasurer and says they are looking for council feedback.

“Some high-level direction related to the levy increase, and I’ve put forward some things council should be mindful of,” Lansdell-Roll told council at their open meeting.

“Our IBEW collective agreement calls for a 4 percent increase in wages effective, January 1st, 2025.”

The majority of council agreed that service levels need to be kept at the same level.

Lansdell-Roll suggests there will be other challenges creating the 2025 budget.

“Probably at this time, as we’re early in the process developing a draft budget, with service levels being the same, probably makes the most sense. With regards to capital, it’s going to be a challenging year for the municipality with regards to policing.”

Lansdell-Roll says a five percent discount they get for the OPP service will end this year, and they are expecting higher costs for policing next year.
