845 charges issued by OPP last weekend

Speeding continues to be the number one infraction among motorists in northwestern Ontario.

Of the 845 charges laid by provincial police during the Labour Day long weekend, 486 were for speeding.

OPP also issued 19 charges for seatbelt infractions and 17 for impaired driving.

Another 230 motorists and individuals were able to get away with only warnings.

It was a similar trend in other parts of the province.

OPP says 4,841 of the 9,1,43 charges issued last weekend were to motorists failing to obey the speed limits.

There were also 124 stunt driving or racing charges, with two issued in northwestern Ontario.

Police say other charges laid fell under the Highway Traffic Act, Liquor License Act, Off-Road Vehicles Act, Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act and Criminal Code.
