Dryden looks to formalize budget changes

The City of Dryden has developed some parameters for any budget increase.

City treasurer Steven Lansdell-Roll says they are guidelines based partly on the Consumer Price Index from the closest city…Thunder Bay.

“So, there could be years that we require less than the range, or it could be years that require more,” Lansdell-Roll told city council recently.

Lansdell-Roll points out these are only guidelines, so if council needs to pass a budget with a higher or lower increase, it can still do that.

“Each year might have unique circumstances, where the range doesn’t fit, plus or minus. And it provides us with the flexibility to deal with those unique circumstances, if and when they arise.”

Lansdell-Roll adds levy increases have not been formalized since he became the city’s treasurer in 2016, and this will formalize the process.
