Justice Murray Sinclair passes away at age 73

The former chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission has passed away.

Justice Murray Sinclair died Monday morning in hospital in Winnipeg.

He was 73 years old.

Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa paid tribute prior to the minute of silence in the Ontario Legislature this morning.

“A ground-breaking and Indigenous lawyer, who led inquiries, that has exposed racial injustice, and redefined how Canadians see Indian Residential Schools.”

Sinclair was the first Indigenous judge in Manitoba and was appointed to the Canadian Senate in 2016.
