There is a need for an emergency shelter in Dryden.
At least that the feeling of former police officer Shane Sauve.
In a deputation to city council Sauve says an emergency shelter is something the city definitely lacks.
“Dryden is no different that Red Lake, Sioux Lookout or Kenora…the one difference is we don’t have a facility for homeless people, or a shelter, and that’s where some of the issues are,” Sauve told Dryden council recently.
He suggests youth are being trafficked, because they have no place to go.
“A shelter, or out-of-the-cold shelter, whatever you want to call it, is not going to solve the problem, obviously. But it’s someplace to keep some of these more vulnerable kids out harm’s way.”
Sauve says there are a number of tent camps in the city, and youth are being trafficked, because they are susceptible to human predators.
