A passing report card on the water quality on Black Sturgeon Lake.
Kenora city planner Ryan Haines they test for a number of different pollutants, including phosphates.
“The results were all pretty good again this year,” Haines told city council recently.
“They all came back within the provincial water quality objectives for all parameters. So, all signs are there are no adverse impacts on Black Sturgeon Lake due to new development.”
Haines adds they test for a number of different contaminants and minerals under provincial guidelines.
“It’s been twice in that 11-year period where it’s been exceeded. But for the most part, the levels have been consistently below that threshold. 2024 has been one of the lower years out of the 11 sampling years.”
This year the city had help from Grand Council Treaty #3 in the Black Sturgeon Lake water testing program.
