Development in Sioux Narrows runs into opposition

The Town of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls is hoping to develop some vacant land in the northeast portion of the municipality.

A request for proposals was sent out and a developer has come back with a plan for 26 units in Pioneer Park with docking on the lake.

Jeff Port is the town planner says an open house identified a number of environment concerns.

“It may change the proposal…in fact it will likely change the proposal, so that those values are protected before anything can be built on the property,” explains Port.

“Also, council will want to see the Environmental Assessment before they make any final decisions whether or not they wish to dispose the land or not.”

The proposal to develop Pioneer Park has led to some pushback from property owners in the area, but Port says they have been open and above board during the whole process.

“Some community members were in favor of it at the open house. Some of the members who attended the open house were not in favour of it, particularly those who were living in close proximity to Pioneer Park.”

A website has been set up by the Reedy Bay Homeowners Association opposing the development of Pioneer Park.
