Fiddler re-elected NAN Grand Chief

First Nations leaders within Nishnawbe Aski Nation has selected Alvin Fiddler to remain as Grand Chief.

He was appointed leader last year after NAN’s executive removed former Grand Chief Derek Fox for violations of their code of conduct.

Fiddler was also Grand Chief between 2015 and 2021.

Fiddler’s election as Grand Chief came as Treaty #9 Chiefs gather for the Keewaywin Conference in Thunder Bay.

He says he’s looking to continuing to serve and focus on the commitments made during the campaign period.

Three people were also acclaimed for the positions of deputy Grand Chief.

They are:

  • Anna Betty Achneepineskum, Marten Falls First Nation
  • Bobby Narcisse, Aroland First Nation
  • Mike Metatawabin, Fort Albany First Nation
