Ontario’s education minister resigns

Ontario’s Education Minister is resigning after just two months on the job.

Todd Smith made the announcement on social media that he is also leaving political politics to take on a job in the private sector.

He says it was a difficult decision.

He has been an MPP for 13 years and was in Ford’s cabinet for the last six.

He was the Minister of Energy for three years before a cabinet shuffle in June when Premier Ford named him to replace Stephen Lecce as Education Minister.

In a message on the platform X, Ford thanked Smith for his political service.

“He leaves politics with a record that he can be incredibly proud of, including, and especially, fixing the previous government’s energy policies and bringing electricity prices down for hardworking families and businesses,” wrote Ford.

No replacement for Smith has been immediately announced.
