Premier touts investments to municipal leaders

The Premier is encouraging municipal leaders to help build Ontario together.

Doug Ford used a speech at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference in Ottawa to tout this government’s investments.

He says it has resulted in revenues increasing to $214 billion without raising taxes.

“We’ve reduced taxes by $8 billion each and every single year,” says Ford.

“You put money back into people’s pockets, they’re going to go out and spend it. As simple as maybe going for dinner, maybe buying a refrigerator, maybe doing a little renovation. That’s what stirs the economy.”

Ford says Ontario is growing like never before and has become the envy of the world.

He says the growth brings challenges and opportunities.

“In order to seize these opportunities and ensure every region, every municipality prospers, we need to work together to build the roads, highways, transit, homes, hospitals and schools. Our growing communities need. We need to continue to create conditions to attract new investments, to create better jobs and, yes, bigger paychecks.”

Ford, however, did not touch on homelessness in his speech.

Municipalities are looking to the province for more support to tackle the issue.
