Railway employees ordered back to work

The latest chapter in our country’s railway labour dispute is unfolding.

The federal labour board is ordering more than 9,000 railway workers to return to their jobs.

The order comes after a contract dispute shut down the country’s two major railways on Thursday.

The federal labour minister stepped in on the same day and called for binding arbitration to settle outstanding issues.

The Teamsters union plans to “comply” with the ruling but are planning an appeal.

The arbitration process is set to begin August 29.

It appears trains will be moving and back to normal service as early as Sunday.
