City of Kenora announces plans for new transit system

The City of Kenora is ready to introduce it’s new micro-transit system this fall.

The Wave, a micro-transit van, will start running on October 15th.

Director of Corporate Services Heather Pihulak says it will be an on-demand service.

“You will use a phone number or use an app and schedule your ride,” explains Pihulak.

“The micro-transit van will come and pick you up at that time. It operates certain hours, Monday to Friday from 7 am until 7 pm and it remains at the affordable rate $2.50 per ride.”

Pihulak points out this is not a unique transit service.

“It’s used in many, many communities throughout the world, not just in Canada or North America and it’s a new modernized way to look at moving people throughout your community.”

There will be a public meeting about the new micro-transit service on September 18th at 6 pm in the Rotary Room of the Moncrief Construction Sports Center.
