Beauty Bay Golf Course, Senior Men’s League, September 3, 2024

“Practice puts brains in your muscles.” Sam Snead.

The competition has begun. Round one of our league championship is in the books. So, how did everyone do with having to putt out and not having any gimmees? Our group was a bit forgetful at first! Not enough to be problematic but it was evident however, that even 12-inch putts can get your attention!

57 league members began their quest for the coveted trophies. An additional 3 guests came along to watch the drama unfold. Clubhouse leaders are listed below just to give you an idea of what you need to do next week! After next week’s round flight winners, both net and gross, and club champion will be withheld and announced on September 17. It is an exciting lead-up to our September 17 finale. Next week will be round two and your last opportunity to submit a low score. As a reminder, our league will begin at 9 AM on September 10 and 10 AM on September 17.

Also, please note the most recent matchplay standings. https://challonge.com/6xys9iqv. There is hope that the matchplay will reach its epic conclusion prior to our September 17 wind up.

A few other things have been added up. You may be curious to know that a total of 96 men signed up to be members of the BB senior men’s league this season. Thanks for being a part of our league! Please note that there are several league members that volunteer to fill important roles in helping this league function like a well-oiled machine. It is a pleasure to announce that Nelson Rozon has agreed to fill an upcoming opening. Marvin Koski will be stepping down as “numbers guy” at the end of this season and passing the torch to Nelson. A tremendous thanks to both of these men. To the rest of you, please feel compelled to fill any of the available volunteer jobs in the seasons ahead. Express your interest to our president, Richard Cone.

Another item… Many of us have been collecting BB bucks throughout the season. Although there is no designated expiry date on your coupon, each valued at five dollars, you are encouraged to use them up in the clubhouse. It also helps to clear up Orlo’s books! They can be used for food or merchandise. Keep in mind that there will be some end of season sales coming up this month.

From Dennis O’Sullivan:

A young man and a priest are playing together.
At a short par-3 the priest asks,
“What are you going to use on this hole, my son?”

The young man says, “An 8-iron, father. How about you?”
The priest says, “I’m going to hit a soft seven and pray”

The young man hits his 8-iron and puts the ball on the green
The priest tops his 7-iron and dribbles the ball out a few yards.

The young man says,
“I don’t know about you, father, but in my church, when we pray, we keep our head down.”
