KMTS Properity Trust Fund growing again

The KMTS Citizens Prosperity Trust Fund has grown to more than $45.5 million.

The trust is money from the sale of the Kenora Municipal Telephone Service 16 years ago.

In the past four years the fund has grown from just over $41.4 million.

Interest generated by the Trust Fund is used to offset some of the property tax increases in the city.

Generally, about 1.1 million dollars is used each year.

Things aren’t totally rosy, as the KMTS Prosperity Trust lost a bit of money in the second quarter.

It was a high as $46.5 million in the first quarter, so the loss amounts to about 2 percent.
