Report on Keewatin library/seniors centre expected in October

Next month, Kenora City Council will learn the next steps regarding the Keewatin Library and Keewatin Senior Centre.

Both have been closed since June because of structural issues identified with the roof.

The city was recently informed that its insurance will not cover the cost of repairs.

Administration is expected to report in October on the feasibility of appealing, sourcing other funds and other courses of action that could be taken.

In the meantime, the city is doing its best to keep programming for library users and seniors going.

Starting Wednesday, October 2, weekly lunches will be available at St. Andrews United Church, with costs shared between a local donor and the city.

The Library team will also add the lunches to its book delivery schedule.

New Horizon members requesting books before Wednesday are asked to contact the Kenora Library.

New Horizons will also offer programming at St. Andrews United Church.

Activities will include chair yoga, bridge, mahjong, cardio drumming, and crib.

Library services will be available at the Kenora branch.

The book return drop boxes remain open at both locations.
