Hurricane Milton leaves 3 million without power in Florida

A devastating hurricane made landfall Wednesday evening in Florida.

By the time it hit Sarasota, hurricane Milton was a category 3 storm with winds of 205 kilometres an hour.

More than 3.2 million people in Florida had lost power by 7:55 a.m. this morning.

According to the National Hurricane Center, wind gusts had slowed to a sustained 140 kilometres an hour.

That brings the hurricane down to category one, according to the National Weather Service standards.

It has already caused loads of damage and flooding.

Most of the hurricane should move over the Atlantic Ocean by the end of the day.
