Canada Post workers issue strike notice for Friday

Some of your holiday packages could be delayed.

Canada Post workers could go on strike as early as Friday.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers gave Canada Post the 72-hour strike notice this morning.

After about a year of bargaining, the union says the parties are far off on several issues, like wage increases, staffing, and working conditions.

CUPW says they could strike Friday, but that depends on what the postal company brings to the bargaining table in the coming days. The National Executive Board for the union would determine whether job action will take place as soon as the 72-hour notice is up.

About two weeks ago, union members voted 95 per cent in favour of strike action, and they have been in a legal position to call the strike since Nov. 3.
