Charities are struggling this holiday season especially due to the Canada Post strike.
The Salvation Army says with postal workers off the job for almost four weeks, it can’t depend on direct mail campaigns to get new support.
“The period between November 1 and December 31 is critical for our organization, as it accounts for 65 per cent of our annual fundraising,” says Lieutenant Colonel John Murray. “During this time, we depend on direct mail campaigns to engage donors and acquire new support. With 2.5 million pieces of direct mail currently stopped due to the strike, our holiday fundraising has already fallen by 50 per cent. “
Donors are encouraged to give online or to make donations through the Kettle campaign.
Canada Post workers walked off the job November 14.
