One more off the list of who may run for leadership of the federal Liberal party.
Transport Minister Anita Anand announced Saturday she will not be a contender and in addition to that, not seek re-election in the riding of Oakville.
Anand made her intentions clear in a statement on X saying she will walk away from her position as an MP but will stay on until the next election and acknowledges what this time of her life meant to her.
“While this chapter of my life has been challenging, it has been tremendously fulfilling to deliver results for Canadians by working collaboratively.”
Anand goes on to say she intends on returning to her roles before parliament.
“Now that the Prime Minister has made his decision to move to his next chapter, I have determined the time is right for me to do the same, and to return to my prior professional life of teaching, research and public policy analysis.”

Anand thanks Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for trusting her and is grateful to the people of Oakville for selecting her to represent them in the House of Commons.
Trudeau announced he will resign as Prime Minister and party leader earlier in the week but would stay on until a new leader was chosen.
Finance Minister Dominic Leblanc as well as Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly also confirmed this week, they would not run in the federal Liberal leadership race.
