Igloo recalls 90-quart coolers over injury hazard

Igloo, a well-known brand of coolers, has announced a recall for its 90-quart Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers, citing a significant risk to consumer safety.

The company said the tow handle on these coolers can cause serious injuries, including fingertip amputations and crushing hazards.

These coolers were manufactured before January 2024 and have a date code imprinted on the bottom of the cooler in a circular pattern, with an arrow pointing to the month of manufacture and the last two digits of the year inside the inner circle.

Your cooler is subject to this recall if the date code is December 2023 or earlier, according to Igloo.

The recall includes units sold in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, with 47,000 sold in Canada alone.

While no injuries have been reported in Canada, there have been 12 incidents in the U.S., including cases of fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.

If you own this cooler, Igloo advises you to check the date code on the bottom and to immediately stop using the recalled coolers to avoid potential injury.

The company explained that owners need to contact them for a replacement tow handle.

Detailed instructions on how to obtain the replacement handle can be found on Igloo’s recall webpage.
