Charges laid against couple accused of defrauding hundreds of Canadians

The federal police have laid charges against two Toronto residents following a major cybercrime investigation.

According to the RCMP hundreds of Canadian victims have been defrauded out of millions of dollars.

The couple is believed to have used technology that allowed them to conceal their actual phone number in order to pose as a bank, government, or police employees.

The Ontario RCMP’s Cybercrime Investigative Team searched the couple’s home on Wednesday and seized items including electronic devices.

Investigators are analyzing the devices to uncover further evidence.

They expect to identify more victims as the investigation proceeds.

The couple is facing five charges including fraud.

The accused remains in custody with a court date scheduled for Friday.
