Ignace police officer almost hit by a drunk driver

The OPP in Ignace say one of its officers was almost hit by a drunk driver.

The incident took place Tuesday night around 8:00, when police were completing a traffic stop.

An approaching vehicle failed to move over on Main Street and almost struck the officer.

The OPP were able to stop the vehicle on West Street and determined the driver had obviously been drinking.

He was taken to the Dryden detachment for a breath test.

A 43-year-old man faces a number of charges including:

· Operation while impaired by blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

· Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

· Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court -two counts

· Failure to comply with undertaking

· Dangerous Operation

· Driving while under suspension

· Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor

· Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available

He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Dryden Court at a later date.
