Heavy snowfall expected for most of northwestern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for northwestern Ontario, with heavy snow expected from Thursday evening into Friday morning.

Total snowfall is forecast to reach 15 centimeters, with some areas—particularly near Thunder Bay and higher terrain—seeing up to 25 centimeters. Snowfall rates could peak at two to four centimeters per hour, creating difficult travel conditions. Reduced visibility and rapid accumulation may make highways, roads, and walkways hazardous.

The warning applies to several communities, including Thunder Bay, Dryden, Kenora, Sioux Lookout, Red Lake, and Atikokan. An Alberta clipper is responsible for the system, bringing snow that will be heavy at times.

Drivers are advised to use caution, turn on their headlights in low visibility, and allow extra space when following other vehicles. More updates will be provided as the system moves through the region.
