Daylight saving time begins Sunday

Most Canadians will be losing an hour of sleep this weekend.

Daylight saving time comes into effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Clocks will move ahead by one hour across most of the country.

It is meant to save energy and maximize the use of daylight hours.

There are some areas that do not observe daylight saving time.

That includes most of Saskatchewan and parts of northwestern Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia and Nunavut.

When you are changing your clocks, you should also check your smoke alarms and change the batteries.

Daylight saving time will continue until Nov. 2, when clocks will go back one hour.
