PM will ask governor general to dissolve Parliament on Sunday: reports

It appears Canadians will be heading to the polls in a federal election in late April or early May.

Radio-Canada is reporting the prime minister will ask the governor general to dissolve Parliament on Sunday and call an election.

That is one day before MPs were scheduled to return to Ottawa after Parliament was prorogued in early January.

It also comes just over a week after Mark Carney was officially sworn in as prime minister.

Sources told Radio-Canada that election day is expected to be April 28 or May 5.
