China’s tariffs come into effect Thursday

Tariffs from China are coming into effect today.

It’s in response to Canada’s levies on Chinese electric vehicles, steel and aluminum.

China previously announced the tariffs on March 9.

The new tariffs will impact several major Canadian exports. There is a 100 per cent tariff on peas, and some oil products, including canola. Pork, ocean plants and seafood will have a 25 per cent duty.

Workers and business owners are worried what might happen with tariffs from both China and the U.S.

China is the second largest importer of Canadian seafood after the United States.
