The Ontario Provincial Police is warning drivers in northwestern Ontario to be cautious on ice roads, as spring conditions are making them less reliable.
This time of year, as temperatures swing above and below freezing, ice can break down quickly.
Even if a route looks solid, it might not be safe. Police say they’re seeing signs of weakening in several areas, and the risk of vehicles going through the ice is going up.
These roads are still being used to reach remote communities and for local travel, but the OPP says it’s important to check conditions before heading out. In Dryden and across the region, officers are reminding drivers to avoid unnecessary trips, travel in daylight, and carry emergency gear just in case.
